Action area 1: Survey and Feedback

The exploring of the opinions, values and attitudes of IT professionals and their principals in Hungary and the Netherlands was successful. 24 semi-structured, in average one-hour long face-to-face interviews were conducted (twelve in each country) which revealed important views from a globalized profession in two different social and cultural environment. An online survey of 48 complex questions was conducted in both countries, which attracted altogether 1799 respondents, out of which the responses of 1076 were included in the analysis. This was a pioneering study the results of which have already raised interest of both the target groups and the general public during conferences, educational events and professional discussions.

Action area 2: Internet forum

The conceptualizing and realizing of the new internet forum, with the aim of providing a forum for different target groups in the intersection of IT and privacy, has been completed successfully. The new International PET Portal and Blog has static and web 2.0 type functions, including user management, content management, blog, articles, annotated links, multi-level contents, photo and video gallery, and polling. The internet forum offers three profiles according to the interest of the visitors: Young, Adult, Professional. The graphic design reflects the characteristics of the three profiles. The internet forum is multilingual: at present it operates in three languages: English, Dutch and Hungarian. The content is edited by national editorial teams.

Action area 3: Creative genres

For amateur creators two calls were announced and advertised in the media: the works, without limitations to choice of genre and format, might present both the negative examples of real or virtual voyeurism, surveillance, identity theft, naive uses of social network sites, cheating techniques on the internet, and the positive examples of respecting other people’s privacy. Due to EC regulations, the BROAD project could not offer awards or other incentives, and this resulted in a low number of submissions of varied quality and genre.

The professional short films represent the most visible success of the project. After having selected five from the submitted fifteen synopses, professional Hungarian filmmakers realized high quality, thought-provoking short films released in Hungarian and in English or with English subtitles. As a sixth product, the team produced a Hungarian remake of a well-known English-language video, with the permission of the original creators. The project produced a design DVD containing all videos in both Hungarian and English versions.
